This week was marked with two very similar experiences, one to a Chinese WalMart, and the other to Achuan market, which is very similar to WalMart or Meijer. It was quite an interesting experience. Mostly similar to American markets, but with some stark and obvious differences.
Tuesday we went to WalMart and afterwards to try on our suits. I decided that I needed to make at least one purchase at WalMart, so I bought a small drink that other people showed me on the trip. It's called Gigi, and it is a sweet juice with gummies inside of it. It seemed very different that what we have at home, but good.
There was a sandbox in Walmart |
WalMart does not look all that different in China, at least until you enter the produce department. |
Live Eels. There were also live fish. Luckily, no live chickens. |
After this, we went back to the fabric market to see our suits. My suit needed a little bit of adjustment on the length of the sleeves, but other than that, it fit really well. In addition to the suits, we also purchased a couple pairs of pants each, while they are going to be tailored to us for so cheap.
The suits were great. the pants were great. My self esteem was sky high; maybe I was finally starting to fit in. Before leaving the market, the shopkeeper who we have been using to do the suits saw my Gigi drink and started laughing. It was baby food.
This is not baby food; I'm at least pretty sure about that.
This is what a very above average dinner looks like from the canteens on campus. Duck with rice. |
Ha! Baby food :) Thanks for the updates and another post - I'm excited to hear all about your trip to Qingdao, have fun!!
